This virus is contagious and is transmitted directly upon contact with an infected person.

Warts are small, rough growths or benign growths that affect the skin. They are most common on the hands and may affect the feet, face, and genital area.

Children are more likely to get warts due to their frequent exposure to wounds, as are people with autoimmune deficiency, which means that the elderly are infected with it as a result of their frequent infection with the virus that causes warts.

Types of warts

Warts have several types that differ according to the place of their appearance on the body, namely:

  1. Common warts: This is the most common type that spreads among people, and appears on the hands and is grayish in color.
  2. Flat warts: This type is flat and its head looks as if it is scraped. This type appears on the face to a large extent and can be found on the arms or thighs, its color varies, it may be pink, brown or yellowish.
  3. Plantar warts: They are in the form of groupings and resemble tissue with black dots inside. They grow inside the skin and not outside it, unlike other types. Usually, this type is painful because it appears on the sole of the foot, which makes walking difficult.
  4. Warts under the nails: This type is found under the nails of the hands and feet, and it is painful because it affects the growth of nails.
  5. Filamentous warts: This type grows around the mouth, nose and neck. They are small in size and skin-colored, and they look like skin growths.
  6. Genital wart: This type appears on the genital areas such as the vagina, anus, and the penis. It is transmitted after sexual contact. It is a type of sexually transmitted infection. When it appears, you must go to the doctor immediately, especially women, as neglecting to treat it may lead to serious cervical cancer.

Reasons for the appearance of warts

When a wound occurs in the skin, the human papillomavirus (HPV) enters it, then it causes a skin infection and thus the appearance of warts, and it is considered a very contagious problem as the virus is transmitted directly from one person to another or from one place to another as a result of one of the following reasons:

  • Touch the wart directly.
  • Touching the tools of a person infected with the virus, such as towels, razors, doors, etc.
  • Cut nails with teeth and remove dead skin.
  • sexual intercourse.

Warts that require going to the doctor

  • If the wart is accompanied by pain.
  • If the color of the wart changes.
  • When you notice the presence of bleeding, pus or crusting around the wart.
  • If you have warts and you are diabetic or immunocompromised.
  • The appearance of warts in the genital area.

wart treatment

Mostly the wart does not need treatment, as it will go away on its own with time, except that a person may have to remove it for cosmetic reasons or if it is accompanied by pain.

Before thinking about this, you must make sure that you do not have diabetes so that the problem does not worsen and lead to you not feeling your feet, and you should be careful not to try to remove it by folk methods if its location is in the genital area, mouth or nose.

Warts treatment methods

  • Freezing

This treatment is obtained without a prescription, which is a mixture of (methyl ether and propane), which is sprayed on the wart, killing the skin cells and then scraping the wart.

This treatment is good if you want to get rid of warts quickly.

  • salicylic acid

To get a satisfactory result, start by soaking the wart in water for 15 minutes, then put salicylic acid on it. Repeat the method daily for 3 weeks until the wart disappears.

  • sticky tape

Adhesive tape treatment is one of the successful treatment methods in getting rid of warts. To complete this process, you must put a small piece of adhesive tape on the wart and leave it for several days, then soak the wart with water and rub it to remove the dead skin.

You need to repeat this method several times to get rid of it completely.

  • liquid nitrogen

If the previous methods of treatment did not work for you, then you can resort to the doctor to help you remove the wart by freezing it with liquid nitrogen, which is accompanied by some pain, but its effect is strong.

When liquid nitrogen is placed on it, the wart shrinks and begins to move away from the skin little by little until it falls off on its own.

  • surgery

Surgery is resorted to in the last stage under a local anesthetic, where the doctor resorts to burning the wart with electricity or cutting it off.
